Teamster 879 Food Drive

This year, the Teamsters Local Union No. 879 is hosting the 7th Annual Christmas Food Drive for a not-for-profit organization “Helping Hand Food Bank” located in Tillsonburg, Ontario. We will be working in conjunction with your Company to raise money to purchase food for the less fortunate families in the Tillsonburg area during the Christmas season. This organization provides non-perishable foods such as meat, fresh produce, and dairy products to the members of the community that are in need.

 

Over the past year, The Helping Hand Food Bank has served between 100-150 people, from singles to families per month. Some of the programs they run, aside from their regular open hours are: Weekend Backpacks – backpacks full of food for elementary school children to ensure that the children eat as healthy as possible, so far this year, they are making up to 66 backpacks per week. Emergency Bags – These packs are for the homeless people and the packs contain cans (flip-top) of meat, luncheon meats, beans, small jams and peanut butter, granola bars, tea, toiletry needs, water,, fresh produce, and small items of clothing such as socks. Seniors Home Delivery – Seniors or folks with disabilities that prohibit their coming into the facility, they take over-the-phone orders and volunteers deliver their groceries.
