Hello Teamsters!
My name is Jen Willis. I’ve always held my head high as union runs through my blood. As I reflect back to my childhood; I have vivid memories of my family members stepping into Union positions and helping their co-workers with pride and determination for those in need.
I bring 20 years of experience from the casino/gaming industry. I became a Teamster in January 2007 when the Security officers of OLG Casino Point Edward voted to have the Teamsters represent them.
In 2012, I decided I wanted to help my co-workers and become more involved with our union. In October 2012, I was elected to a Steward position by my peers. Since then, I have helped in the negotiations of 4 collective agreements. I have participated in numerous grievance meetings and have been privileged to offer advice on a few arbitrations.
A pivotal point in my Teamster career was in September 2019 when I was selected by our Executive Board to attend the Womens’ Conference in Montreal. What an incredible experience! I was in absolute awe over the vastness of the Teamsters and all the sectors in which our great union represents. That experience was made possible by my Business Agent Mr. Doug Pilkey (now retired), he thought it might spark an interest for me. Well, he was right. That was my point of elevation in union pride.
In December 2019, I was appointed to Chief Union Steward for Gateway Casino Sarnia. Since then I have not looked back. I sit on the JHSC for GCS and I also sit on the Community Involvement Team for GCS.
The year 2020 for many of us was extremely cumbersome with adapting to “new” normalities in every facet of life. Many wanted the year over with. However, for myself the end of 2020 was one of the greatest moments I have ever had bestowed upon me. I was appointed by our Executive Board to a Trustee position. What an incredible honour. I took my oath on December 20, 2020.
I look forward to being a part of this incredible team and the greatness that is achieved through our solidarity. Afterall, we are Teamsters! Teamsters, that help those in need.
